Many children used their finger to follow along as they were reading and sounding out the letters to pronounce the word. The video also showed different strategies to guide the students.
Which is a great way for all the students to learn and focus on their reading. I also liked how the students would read a word wrong and go back to the word and notice how they read it wrong. They would correct themselves by sounding out the word which is awesome! These different strategies help promote reading comprehension and monitoring comprehension. These strategies also build confident readers who are able to read independently without so much guidance from their teachers.
Introduction: First I will explain to my students that they will learn about consonant blend, which are two or three consonants that come together to make a different consonant sound.
I will also tell my students that they will discuss a special type of blend called a consonant digraph, where two consonants combine to make one sound. I will start my first lesson with a beginning digraph worksheet. Working on it as a whole group. Guiding my students and helping them match the picture to the blend. I will write a few words on the board with sounds missing. Students are to guess what the missing sound is and spell the word.
My third lesson would be word cards. Highlighting the vowel sounds. They will identify the vowel digraph on the card. Ex — Song. I knew a ch icken, ch icken, ch icken…. Singing will give the children playful opportunities to practice oral language, dramatic expression, creative movement and motor skills. During circle time: Giving children the chance to listen and repeat to learn consonant digraphs. Also, a great way to build literacy skills.
Students are to identify the picture and say the word aloud, as they are saying the word aloud they are clapping their hands to represent the number of syllables in each word.
Once students figure out how many claps they did, they are to take Lego pieces to represent how many syllables are in the word in the spaces provided under the picture. I am trying to get the Halloween syllable sort, but I cannot get it to open. Would you be able to email it to me?
