The standout button of this configuration is the 5D button, with a bright red color that is reminiscent of the nub on a Lenovo ThinkPad. A sort of a directional pad for precision aiming, the button can also access five different commands based on the direction in which the button is pushed up, down, right, left and in.

For example, pushing the button to the left would trigger a potion while pressing it in unleashed a fireball. O 7's buttons delivered varying degrees of feedback. The four buttons on the thumb panel were nice and firm, as were the DPI and mode shift buttons on the top of the mouse.

However, the left and right mouse buttons, the pair of buttons surrounding the DPI button and the button above the pinkie grip were somewhat mushy. Click to Enlarge Another cool feature is the ActionLock buttons. Comparable to cruise control, ActionLock enables players to reduce the number of clicks necessary to take down a hostile enemy horde. Activating ActionLock is as simple as hitting the gray button by the DPI button and the right or left mouse button.

The mouse then repeats the action until you press the ActionLock button again to switch it off or return to manual mode. The feature gave our tired digits a much-needed respite after a few hours of busting through Constructors, letting us place our character into a sort of rapid-fire mode in "Borderlands 2.

While we like the Cyborg's button placement, we wish that there was more uniformity in terms of button feedback. Still, we appreciated being able to reach every button without having to second-guess the location.

After mixing and matching parts, we settled with the panels covered with a gray rough-textured plastic. It provided us with a nice firm grip and felt satisfying rubbing against our finger and palm.

Players that prefer a little more height will want to use the palm rest that offers an additional 4 millimeters of thickness. The screws aren't just there for show. Gamers can also adjust the mouse's weight by removing one or all of the five 6-gram weights. The subtracted weights can be stored in the handy weight storage container packaged with the mouse.

It simply can't be done. Pros: It really is a great mouse. I love how accurate it can be. Its response is superb. Love the fact I adjust it to my preference. Truely a great mouse the first year.

Cons: The only down side to this mouse and the main reason I probably wont buy from Mad Catz again, is because over time the sensor for the button click is inaccurate and your single click becomes a double. This is very well documented online and even videos. Its so annoying that I cant hit the start button in windows because it double clicks. Overall Review: I understand Mad Catz wont warranty past a year and do not hold them responsable for that.

Pros: Great mouse, great to customize, great programming. The mouse 1 and 2 buttons still work fine. Cons: At first, the only annoying thing was that I had to activate the program every time I boot up.

After a while though, I realized that the worst part is that this mouse is very poorly built. After about 3 months of average use, the left most button was starting to stop working. Then another button started to stop working. It just decided to stop being a part of the mouse and fell off.

Pros: - Lots of buttons. Enough for most MMO's. Cons: - The first one I received doesn't work. The buttons all click and work, but the mouse pointer doesn't move at all. I've updated the drivers and tried multiple USB ports. Unless the user has a long thumb, then the furthest button on the thumb grip won't be practical.

Overall Review: I'm somewhat of a mouse enthusiast. Considering that it's the primary medium through which we interact with games, I'm very particular about which ones I use. It's an amazing mouse and I have it configured for maximum comfort. It currently suffers from some fairly major manufacturer defects. As I mentioned earlier, the first one I received doesn't even have a working laser so the pointer won't move.

Aside from the defects, it's simply not an upgrade from the RAT 7. In fact, it feels more like a downgrade in every way from material quality to accessories. The G is good, but the Razer can be configured for different grip styles and the buttons are more ergonomic. Cons: It may be the mouse, the driver, or my game pad, but at times the cursor will get 'stuck'' This seldom happens and may be primarily due to crumbs.. The hardware and software have been flawless without incident.

I prefer the button placement on this compared to the Naga. Cons: In my opinion it wouldn't even be tolerable without the additional software. This mouse is just too good to have a rating as low as it is. I've had this mouse for quite a while now having upgraded from the RAT7. I absolutely adore this mouse and it's actually not because of its "customization options", it's because the number of buttons as well as their placement.

The problem is that I didn't want something like the Razer Naga which puts all of the buttons in one giant cluster like that. The buttons on this mouse are nicely spread out but always easy to press. I will admit a few things: 1. The optical laser honestly used to annoy me because it is so sensitive a piece of dust would just cause it to randomly stop working so I'd need to pick it up and set it back down.

A problem I would not have ever expected of a "gaming" type mouse. Thankfully though this actually isn't really a problem anymore. Whereas I used to maybe have to do it every other day, now it maybe happens once a month could be age, could be a firmware update I missed noticing when I reformatted, who knows, but it does work much better now 2.

I was also initially skeptical about some of the buttons durability but thankfully that has proven completely unfounded. Not only do they all still work, but even their tactility has remained the same. Admittedly the 5-directional pad button does take a bit to get used to especially for gaming but now that I have, I don't know what I would do without it. The profile software that comes with the mouse for setting up macros - meh, I've honestly seen better and a couple features seem to be missing.

And using a program called Cyborg Auto-Profiler it now does everything I want which is mainly being able to automatically switch between profiles based on what application I'm in, a feature I found desperately lacking before That's the second reason I'm writing this review, I don't think enough people are aware of that particular third party software and how much better it really does make the mouse. I realize not everyone has the same dislikes about the mouse, but I just believe that if software is something people are having an issue with, then if maybe more people knew about that software, then they would possibly give it better reviews and the mouse the attention it deserves.

Thus the asterisk in my review title, because to me it makes all the difference between being a 3-star mouse to a perfect 5-star or eggs, whatever.
