White Light Ten to Midnight. In the years before the dawn of the Great War , Sentinel had worked his way up to becoming the head of security for the Senate ; Chaos Theory Part 2 unbeknownst to his employers, he secretly assembled a militia of sleeper agents, recruited from his closest informants.
Using a forerunner of the infamous shadowplay technique, Sentinel conditioned them to serve him if the time ever came. Last Light. One of the duties of his security force was to go around threatening and killing people who got in the Senate's way or risked embarrassing it. Shortly after an assassination attempt on Nominus Prime , he eagerly watched Senator Proteus announcing the implementation of the " Clampdown ", which would improve security at the cost of "some of the freedoms" of the populace.
He was constantly interrupted by reports that an intruder was fighting his way into the Grand Imperium , defeating all the security squadrons Sentinel sent at him. Interested in seeing how things would play out, he stood by as Orion Pax entered the Senate's chamber and confronted them over their corruption and detached relation to the populace. Proteus eventually ordered Sentinel to have him removed. Chaos Theory Part 2.
As the Clampdown began, the Senate, who were behind the attack on Nominus Prime to begin with, had Sentinel try to tap into the powers of the Matrix of Leadership in the Prime's chest. Post Hoc The Chaos of Warm Things In the process, Sentinel discovered that the Matrix was merely a fake, and with this revelation the Senate decided they had no more use for Nominus and had him killed. They went on to spread rumours that Sentinel was showing signs of affinity for being a Prime Post Hoc while he got to work on planning a "Decepticon terrorist attack" that would give him an excuse to round up all proto-Decepticons and send them off for brainwashing.
Patternism While Orion Pax thwarted this, Sentinel's men were still able to discover that Senator Shockwave was quietly forming an army of dissident outliers. Sentinel ordered Shockwave's academy destroyed in an "accident" and Shockwave himself taken into custody. The rebellious Senator confronted Sentinel and Proteus with his knowledge of their illegal takeover of the Senate, but they were nonplussed and had him subjected to empurata and Brainwashing.
All Our Parlous Yesterdays. Upon assuming office, Sentinel Prime operated out of the Security Services Headquarters in Kaon , generally regarded as "the worst place on Cybertron. Megatron Origin 1 He would even claim he didn't get to set policy.
The Last Autobot He worked alongside Prowl , his lieutenant , and didn't seem that keen on him either, viewing Prowl's methodical approach as anathema to his more straightforward and brutal tactics. Megatron Origin 1 Last Light Sentinel also formed an Elite Guard for all the important work he wanted done and not known about, like secretly capturing a spark hot spot so it could be experimented on and the Functionist Council couldn't use it.
All Our Parlous Yesterdays During this time, Sentinel and Prowl briefly visited Luna 2 to check up on the progress of a new energon mine supervised by Soundwave. Another Mine. Sentinel's Elite Guard clashed with Orion Pax's outlaws over the hot spot and, well, turned out not to be that elite: Sentinel hired bruisers, not people with brains.
He lost the hot spot to Pax. All Our Parlous Yesterdays At some point, Sentinel did something later remembered as "lay[ing] claim to a populated world". New Worlds Order. When Senator Decimus was badly injured in a riot, Sentinel ordered Prowl to handle the situation as he didn't "have the struts to deal with another whining senator": if only they gave him "what I need"! Megatron Origin 1 After a surge in illegal gladiatorial bloodsports where Megatron's rose to prominence, he personally took charge of the investigation from Prowl, ordered tactical recon teams "Panorama" to watch eight potential venues and intelligence officers to watch everything , and a core strike team "Hammer" to hit Megatron's "cult" when the venue was identified.
Officers Bumper and Fastback did indeed find a venue but unfortunately, both were murdered before they could report in. Megatron Origin 2. Sentinel Prime vowed not to let their deaths be in vain, and at their funeral, the Autobot leader urged others to let their deaths be a call to arms. Megatron Origin issue 3 In private, he told his closest minions that he planned to find a Titan and unleash it on the Decepticons! They captured Megatron and most of the others, but were forced to free Soundwave per Senate directive, much to Prime's frustration.
Megatron Origin 3 Unfortunately for Sentinel, this had been Megatron's plan all along and a "defecting" Starscream released all the prisoners in the Security Services' HQ! As chaos broke out across Kaon, Sentinel Prime held the line until he decided to take things to the next level. Megatron Origin 4 His ensuing duel with Megatron was watched from behind the scenes by Soundwave and Shockwave.
Soundwaves The additional firepower didn't make much of a difference, seeing as Megatron tore into it and pulled Prime off a cliff. Sentinel was defeated by Megatron. Afterwards, the former Prime's barely functional body was dumped into the middle of the Autobot forces. Prowl ordered a retreat. We would too. The next morning, Megatron discussed his next moves with Soundwave Megatron Origin 4 Rumours spread that Sentinel had survived his battle until the replacement Senate put out footage of the body being retrieved.
Sentinel's body was subsequently laid to rest, and received a state funeral at the Primal Basilica in which grieving crowds lined the streets. With his first body damaged beyond repair, Infinitus secretly abandoned his old body and went into hiding beneath Kaon. Unable to explain this baffling "mutilation", Prowl claimed that Sentinel's body had been desecrated by Decepticons, who had stolen Sentinel's head.
Megatron was left irritated people would blame him for that. The Last Autobot Sentinel Prime was immediately succeeded by Zeta Prime , Spotlight: Blurr and, in spite of his many issues, Sentinel's last stand against Megatron meant that the Autobots remembered him as a hero, his last deed outweighing his many flaws.
The Last Autobot. From his hiding spot, Infinitus worked to build a new body for himself. This took longer than he expected; according to Infinitus, he was "subconsciously attuning" himself to the spark frequencies of the Titans, and slipped in and out of consciousness over many millions of years.
Shortly before the Dead Universe invasion in , Optimus Prime would recall Sentinel Prime as he ruminated on the supposed infallibility of a Prime versus the depressing reality. Spotlight: Optimus Prime. Those in the lower caste, however, did not receive a name. Alpha Trion opposed this system and made his thoughts very clear to Sentinel, but eventually withdrew to the Hall of Records. After a while Sentinel became a hermit and said he did not care for the lower castes. Later in his life a gladiator named Megatron began preaching against the Caste System.
One night, Sentinel attended a performance at Altihex Casino and it was here the Decepticons attacked. Sentinel did not fight back as he relied on his bodyguards Starscream , Thundercracker and Skywarp to fight for him.
Only to discover they were trying to get recruited into the Decepticon ranks and used him as a peace offering. Megatron used Sentinel as a punching bag, whenever his plans failed.
He was later moved from Kaon to Moonbase One. Starsceam, wanting to rule the Decepticons, offered Sentinel a chance at redemption. He informed him that Megatron was trying to acquire the Plasma Energy Chamber and released him to confront Megatron.
They took the Matrix of Leadership and a few other objects to build the being known as Primal Prime. Being programmed with the Matrix, Primal held all of the wisdom of each of the Primes that came before him, and became one of the most powerful Transformers to date. Primal Prime became a huge source of conflict with the Tarantulas stole the Matrix, but the Vok counteracted this by taking control of Primal Prime themselves.
Primal Prime's immense power was able to defeat the Tarantulas and restore the Matrix in an unpublished comic. Because of Primal's design, he garnered a lot of attention from the public eye, despite having no desire to become a celebrity. However, all of the events surrounding Primal Prime don't change the fact that he is essentially a one-man army. He can take out whomever he wants with however much force he desires.
The original Thirteen were great and all, but they were not created at the same time. Somebody had to come first, and that someone was Prima. He was assigned to lead the Thirteen into battle and protect the planet of Cybertron.
Prima and his brothers were given the ability to transform so that one day they would be able to battle and defeat the dastardly Unicron. Due to the nature of his name, Prima is often cited as the first Prime to ever exist. Prima was no pushover either. He fought for the concept of good itself, feeling that freedom and nobility should be available to all. He wields the Star Saber, which enabled him to combat even the toughest of enemies.
When everything went downhill, Prima chose to stay on Cybertron and fulfill his original duty to protect it. However, Prima faced great opposition as the Decepticons rose to power. When the Predacons emerged from an event, it was up to Prima to defeat them.
He ended up fighting one on one against the voracious Predaking. Despite the latter's amazing power and instinct, Prima still managed to come out on top and forced the Decepticon to submit. This is where things start to get a bit confusing. It is clear that Prima was the first created Autobot, but as the Transformers cartoon states, there was somebody that predated Prima. This being was known as Primon, and he is the first Autobot that there is record of, though we're not sure how that can be.
Some people theorize that he was an entity that is older than the creation of Cybertron itself, but that brings loads of theological questions that are probably too complicated to discuss here. It is unclear what Primon's true battle strengths were, but it's clear that he had to be some kind of amazing individual to predate the creation of Cybertron. When Rodimus Prime gained the Matrix of Leadership and was given guidance by multiple Primes, the first one to speak with him was Primon.
This character is so legendary and elusive that not even Vector Prime is sure where he came from or what he was really about. All that we know is that Primon bore the Matrix and bore it well enough to pass it down to Prima before passing himself into legend. Try not to think about it too much. Primus is the ultimate Prime. His existence goes back to the beginning of the universe itself.
He and Unicron were entities that decided to have their own separate outlooks on life. Primus was on the side of good and life, and ended up creating the Transformers. He was also powerful enough to become the planet Cybertron, where his creations would live. You could argue that Primus technically isn't a Prime and doesn't deserve to be on this list, but I would argue back that the status of Prime comes from his name.
The Matrix of Leadership came from Primus himself, so I think that more than validates him for this list. Each Transformer that lives has a piece of Primus inside of themselves, and those that are aware of the being worship it.
That said, Primus is not without fault. He has shown to be tricked and manipulated by characters such as the Fallen. However, that doesn't stop him from being the most powerful Prime and the foundation to what the Autobots have been fighting for millions of years. He is the embodiment of order and heroism, and if it weren't for him, the Primes would not exist.
I am a very passionate and dedicated writer. I specialize in all things geek related and have an unrequited love for superheroes. My end goal is to eventually be writing full time to bring great info to the world! No, seriously. When Sam Witwicky launched into a rambling lecture on the nature of space and time while in a trance brought on by the knowledge of the AllSpark entering his mind, he recalled an "expedition" led by Sentinel Prime which took "fourteen galactic convergences" to get "an echo.
But as the conflict dragged on, with no end in sight, Sentinel found himself forced to make a drastic choice: a secret alliance with Megatron. Believing that it was only through the sacrifice of another world that Cybertron could be restored, Sentinel developed teleportational space bridge technology to transport resources across interstellar distances—but, knowing that Optimus would never condone his course of action, Sentinel kept his plans a secret, claiming the bridge was a means of transporting troops into battle.
Sentinel's intention was to depart for the chosen planet— Earth —and meet Megatron there later, but during the battle that erupted around the departure of Sentinel's ship the Ark , the vessel was damaged and sent spiralling off into the depths of space, presumed lost forever.
The war was left to continue with none save Megatron aware of Sentinel's treachery. In , the Ark crashed on Earth's moon. The impact was detected by NASA , triggering the space race of the s and leading to the United States of America 's eventual first trip to the moon in , which was secretly an attempt to inspect the crashed alien ship.
However, before Apollo 11 got there, a team of Decepticons led by Soundwave , who had tracked the vessel, removed the majority of the space bridge pillars from the ship to keep them out of human hands. The NASA astronauts found no trace of them, nor of Sentinel himself, safely sealed in the ship's crash vault with five remaining pillars. In the present day, a mission to Chernobyl resulted in Optimus Prime's Autobots discovery of a piece of the Ark , which had been recovered by a later Russian moon mission.
Demanding information from new National Security Director Charlotte Mearing , Optimus learned that the ship was on the moon, and subsequently traveled there with Ratchet to find and retrieve Sentinel Prime.
Taking his mentor's body back to Earth, Optimus revived him with the Matrix of Leadership , and Sentinel awoke in a crazed rage, briefly attacking Optimus before coming to his senses. Sentinel explained the space bridge to the Autobots and humans, lamenting the seeming loss of the pillars that the Decepticons had stolen, and took an immediate dislike to Mearing when she ordered the few remaining pillars taken into custody. Optimus proceeded to give Sentinel a tour of Earth, which led the old Autobot to marvel at the beauty and the life of the planet, after which Optimus offered Sentinel the Matrix back.
Sentinel turned it down, feeling unable to lead on a planet he did not know, and telling Optimus that he was now his teacher, rather than his protege. Discovering evidence that the Decepticons held the missing pillars, the Autobots' young human ally Sam Witwicky believed that the villains would soon be coming after Sentinel Prime, since only he could activate the technology.
Several Autobots escorted Sentinel Prime back to NEST headquarters, fending off a team of Decepticons along the way, but once they had arrived at their destination, Sentinel allowed his facade to drop. Knowing that all was in readiness, he revealed his centuries-long alliance with Megatron by slaying Ironhide with his Cosmic Rust cannon, tearing NEST headquarters apart to reclaim the pillars, and departing to meet his Decepticon co-conspirators at the Lincoln Memorial.
There, Sentinel opened a small space bridge portal above, through which Decepticon troops in waiting on the moon poured. Optimus Prime arrived and pleaded with Sentinel to stop, but Sentinel refused, leading to a battle between the two. Sentinel overpowered his former pupil, but spared his life.
Sentinel proceeded to deceive the United Nations , claiming that he and the Decepticons would harmlessly take the resources they needed from Earth and depart with no further bloodshed if Optimus and his "Autobot rebels" were exiled from the planet. The humans wasted no time in agreeing, and the Xantium was launched with Earth's remaining eleven Autobots inside With their primary opponents now believed obliterated, the Decepticons set about conquering the city of Chicago and positioning pillars in strategic locations around the world.
Megatron gloated over the success of their partnership, but Sentinel was quick to violently and physically remind him that he was working with Megatron, not for him. With the pillars in place, Sentinel activated the space bridge, opening a huge portal above the Earth through which Cybertron itself began to materialize. Earth was not without defenders, however: Optimus and the Autobots had, in fact, staged their deaths, and had arrived in Chicago to stop Sentinel's plot. Optimus shot out the control pillar, deactivating the bridge, leading a furious Sentinel to engage him in battle once more.
Unlike their last bout, Optimus held his own, leading Sentinel to call upon Decepticon fighter ships to fire on his ex-apprentice, while he broke off to fight his way through the other Autobots in an attempt to escape. NEST soldiers destroyed the ships, allowing Optimus to pursue Sentinel and re-engage him, but this time, Sentinel took the upper hand when he severed one of Optimus's arms. Just before Sentinel could deliver the killing blow, however, he came under attack from Megatron, who, thanks to the goading of Sam's girlfriend Carly Spencer , had realized the threat Sentinel posed to his leadership and had decided to once again take his rightful place at the top of the command chain.
At the same time, the other Autobots destroyed the reactivated control pillar, thus destroying the space bridge and apparently Cybertron with it. Though Megatron's attack on Sentinel saved Optimus's life, the Autobot leader refused Megatron's offer of a truce and killed his eternal foe, leaving Optimus and the now-badly-damaged Sentinel alone once more.
Sentinel abandoned his pride; he pleaded with Optimus for mercy, claiming all he ever wanted was the survival of their race. Optimus countered that Sentinel hadn't betrayed the Autobots, but rather himself , and as his treacherous mentor howled at the ruination of his plans, Optimus unceremoniously executed Sentinel Prime with Megatron's fusion shotgun.
